The GASLight
Chronicling the illuminating absurdities of our political times.
By George Abraham Stone
⸻
Glowing in today’s GASLight is…
The idea that a man who built a golden elevator empire on debt, grift, and aggressive hand gestures is now—once again—writing the national budget. And just like his restaurant steaks and his stakes in democracy: it’s overcooked, overhyped, and likely paid for by someone else’s retirement fund.
Let’s talk about the latest Trump-endorsed “budget bill.” You know, the one that adds trillions to the debt, slashes social safety nets, and hands tax breaks to billionaires with gold-plated fountains in Dubai. It’s the kind of bill that comes with its own echo chamber and a handy little slogan:
“This too shall pass.”
Yes, it will. Just like a kidney stone. That's Trump administration griftonpmics.
⸻
🏛️ A Bill So Cynical, Mitch Smiled

When Mitch McConnell says “they’ll get over it,” he’s not talking about a bad breakup—he’s talking about you: the American taxpayer, the retiree, the underpaid teacher, the disabled vet, the minimum-wage worker with three jobs and a GoFundMe for insulin. Even Trump's own MAGA sycophant followers.
They’ll get over it, because by the time the debt bomb explodes, they’ll be distracted by the next invented culture war. And the painful memories will be gone before the midterms.
📜 Cut taxes for the rich. Slash benefits for the poor. Throw a tantrum about drag queens in libraries. Repeat.
⸻
💰 A Budget by Billionaires, For Billionaires
This isn’t economics. It’s Griftonomics. It’s what you get when the guy running the budget is also running a side hustle licensing his name to foreign investors who only speak Crypto and Criminal. They're funding Trump Gaza and Qatar hotels, casinos, golf clubs and resorts.
Why does the wannabe King wanna weaker dollar? Because, the weaker the dollar, the stronger the foreign development grift. And just like his condos in Panama and Azerbaijan, this budget has questionable backers, and a very real chance of collapse. With respect to ther bill, the latter if we're lucky and the House grows a spine.
⸻
🤹 The Distraction Factory
While economists warn of structural debt, Trump’s shouting about “woke” M&Ms. While food prices rise, Fox News reports on flag-burning vegan TikTokers.
It’s not incompetence. It’s design.
If you’re not outraged, you’re not reading the fine print.
And the fine print reads:
“This bill brought to you by Mar-a-Lago Global Investors LLC. All profits are nonrefundable.”
⸻
⚠️ Final Thought
If we don’t pay attention, this too shall pass…
• Our public schools
• Our clean air
• Our Social Security
• Our middle class
• Our democracy
And when it’s all gone, they’ll say it was your fault for not being patriotic enough to sacrifice.
⸻
🧠 GASLIGHTING MOMENT:
Passing a bill that hurts the working class while telling them it’s patriotic to suffer.
You can’t make this stuff up. But luckily, you don’t have to.
Congress already did it for you.
